The archaeology of Africa differs greatly from that of the rest of the world, and so terminology has been altered to account for this, leading to the use of the terms Early Stone Age(ESA), Middle Stone Age(MSA), and Later Stone Age(LSA) to refer to the three ages from ~2.6mya to ~9,000ya, instead of the European term "Paleolithic".
