Hello there and thanks for reading,
My name is Roelant Frijns and I live in Lent, the Netherlands. Aged 17, I attend secondary school in my town.
I was born in Nijmegen on 14 April 1998. After moving to Lent with my parents, I attended primary school for 8 years. I have two sisters and a brother, who are all younger than I am.

Since 2010, I attend secondary school in Lent. My subjects are geography, history, French, English, German, Dutch, mathematics, arts, scientific studies and economy, with French being my best subject. I also learned Spanish outside school. Two of my friends at school are Rick van den Brink and Tim Bekker. At school, I have publicly spoken out against discrimination and right-wing conservatism.
In February 2014, I came out as gay for my class and my family, after already having informed a couple of friends and some teachers on it. Since then, my 'activism' has focussed mainly on LGBT rights. For example, I'm a member of our school's Gay-Straight Alliance.
Interests and passion

It was not before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which took place when I was 12, that I got to know my love for the beautiful game. I support PSV Eindhoven, FC Barcelona and the national teams of the Netherlands, Ghana and Laos. My user name, GioGyan, is derived from my favourite footballer Asamoah Gyan.
After visiting Thailand, Laos and Vietnam in 2011, I discovered that travelling is my true passion. Other countries I've visited include Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, Vatican City, South Africa, Lesotho and the United Arab Emirates (where I only spent a total of 13 hours on the airport).
One of my major interests is learning foreign languages. I can contribute in English (in which I graded for my Cambridge ESOL exam), French, Spanish and German, besides my native language, Dutch (of course). Another point of interest is topography, because of my passion for travelling. Cycling is another hobby and I'm interested in politics, being a left-wing green socialist myself. I am a member of GroenLinks, a Dutch left-wing political party.
Sociology is something else I'm very interested in. The most intriguing phenomenon in society is, I think, religion. I am atheist myself, and I'm very sceptical when it comes to religion. However, I think it's good to know your 'enemies' and I am nonetheless very curious and eager to learn more about faith, religion and human beliefs. I do support freedom of religion, as I think it's an important human value.
I also have an advanced knowledge of LGBT issues, which I already had before I discovered that I am gay myself, in August 2013.
If I say so myself, I am actually quite good at writing and I hope to become either a journalist, a columnist or a writer. Also, I would like to become an important LGBT rights activist. But who knows... maybe I'll end up as a teacher on a secondary school.
I probably know more about Laos than any Dutch person of my age. I think it's an amazing and very interesting country and I'd love to go there again and again and again when I get older.
Lily Allen's "Fuck You" is my motto for life.
