Frauenfeld Castle is a stronghold in Fauenfeld, the capital of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. The Castle was originally the seats of the Counts of Kyburg and the central keep of 1200 dates from this period. Following the death of the last Kyburg count, in 1273, the castle became the property of Rudolph I of Germany whose son Albert I gave it to his major domo Jacob von Frauenfeld.[1].
Jacob's sons expanded the castle further. From 1407, the castle resisted successive attacks from the Apenzeller. In 1460, Thurgau fell to the confederates and from 1534 to 1803 the castle served as the local political headquarters.[2].
Today, the castle is a museum [3].
