The first battle between the British settlers and the Cherokee Indians was called the Anglo Cherokee War or the Cherokee American wars. This was the first war that lead to the second war known as the Cherokee War of 1776[1] or The Second Cherokee War.The Cherokee tribe and the British settlers had been friends with the British Americans since the early 1700, siding with them in the battle of the French and Indian War. They worked as allies during the war because both the British settler and the Cherokee Indians[2] had interactions between each other in the past. These two groups knew each other because in the past both of these groups exchanged different things such as tools for land. The Cherokee Indians would usually trade some of their land in exchange for the modern tools that the British had like blankets, knives and some gunpowder, which they did not have them because they weren’t as advanced as them at the time. As time passed the Cherokee Indians began to use more of the British tools tools rather than their traditional tools because they became amazed with their tools because it made their lives easier, which the British settlers saw this as a beneficial. They saw it as beneficial because due to access that they had on the Cherokee Indians they saw this as a opportunity for them to try and convert the Cherokee Indians into Christians. The British settlers also saw this as an opportunity for them to become the dominant group since the Cherokee Indians trusted them.
During the war of the French and Indian War [3]the Cherokee Indians served as mercenaries on the Virginia frontier to help the British in the war. The Cherokee Indians lived Piedmont and Appalachian valleys of Virginia and south Carolina[4] which at the time they were divided into different social classes. The Cherokee Indians were the top social class since they were the most advanced and developed tribe compared to the other tribes. To help the British settlers fight Great Britain the Cherokee tribe sent over 1000 of their men to help fight against Great Britain. This was nearly one third of the Cherokee Indians fighting force. As the Cherokee Indians were in combat to help their allies the British defeat the Great Britain many of the Cherokee Indians were attacked by British settlers as they came back from the war in the late 1758 in Virginia because the British settlers saw this as a perfect opportunity for them to attack the Cherokee Indians. The British settlers not only did they attack the Indians that were coming back from the war but they also attacked the people that stayed behind the war like the Cherokee Indian women. Many of these women were raped. Which this got the Cherokee Indians mad and so they decided to attack the British settlers through the southern colonies. They Cherokee Indians assassinated Captain Paul Demere.[5] This got the British settlers heated and so they decide to strike back a few months later. They striked back on August 8 1760 in a two way military incursion. The British settlers decided to burn the Indians homes which this left them homeless and vulnerable, which this lead the Cherokee Indians with no option but to surrender and to make a treaty with the British settlers. This treaty favored the British settlers because the Cherokee Indians were forced to leave their land in South Carolina.
