Article Evaluation:

I would say that overall, the information contained in the article is relevant to the topic of a digital divide. It is logically organized to take the reader from a basic definition into causes, implications of, and eventually criticisms of a digital divide. The article also explains how this plays out on a global scale. The authors of this article do not seem to be too biased one way or another as they present multiple viewpoints and different kinds of criticism to the digital divide. However, it is likely that even though the information is presented in a neutral manner, the authors do possess some form of inherent bias. This is due to the fact that most of them come from developed nations. The information also seems to be heavily based on facts, which is evident in the source material. For example, one of their main sources is the US Department of Commerce. This is a source I would trust to dispense accurate information on the subject matter. However, an issue with this source could potentially be that it is from 1995. There may need to be some updates to accommodate this. Fortunately, many of the Internet sources cited are up-to-date within the last five years or so. This article is also part of a WikiProject called “Countering Sytemic Bias/Politics”. The way that Wikipedia approaches this topic can be considered different than how it was approached in class because of setting. A “classroom” environment has a different set of obligations in the way that information is presented to its students as opposed to an Internet audience for an online encyclopedia. The information encompassed here offers a wider variety of subtopics as it is composed of a much wider range of sources.
