Speciation is the distribution of an element amongst defined chemical species in a system
Especially by ions, the most chemical elements can be present in different states. For example, water can be present as the liquid molecule H2O, but also as ions H3O+ and OH-.
For ions, the distribution of these speciation can be predicted with the equilibrium constant (K). For pure water, this constant is:
