Oponeo.pl – a Polish online shop selling automotive products, mainly tyres, and rims. The shop belongs to Oponeo.pl S.A. It currently operates on the Polish market and 12 European markets (Belgian, Czech, German, Irish, Spanish, French, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, Austrian, Slovak and UK). The company is based in Bydgoszcz.

History

The history of the shop can be traced back to January 1999, when the trade portal opony.com.pl was established as part of Citynet Media s.c. It continued in 2001 with the launch of the sale of tyres and rims online via the website opony.com. In 2003, tyre services were separated from the existing structures, and Opony.com Sp. z o.o. was established.

In November 2006, sales exceeded 35 000 tyres in one month for the first time, and the number of registered customers reached 80 000. In December, Opony.com Sp. z o.o. changed its name to Oponeo.pl Sp. z o.o. The transformation to Oponeo.pl S.A. took place in March of the following year, and by 12 September 2007, the company had already made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Since 2008, headquarters of Oponeo.pl have been located on Podleśna Street in Bydgoszcz, where a building complex of approximately 6.600 m² and warehouses have been built over several years. The office space offers employees, among other things, a restaurant, gym, fitness zone, and relaxation areas.

In 2009, the company launched its first foreign tyre shops (in Spain, France, Germany, and Italy). A year later, the business was expanded to include the Austrian market. In the following years (2011-2017), sales were launched in the Great Britain, Holland, Irland, Czech, Slovakia, Belgium and Hungary.

In 2016, the price of Oponeo.pl S.A. shares listed on the WSE increased by 72%. The company was included in the WIG80 and then the WIGdiv. In 2019, sales revenue increased by 14.1% compared to the previous year, amounting to PLN 962 million. During this period, more than 3.9 million tyres and 139,000 rims were sold, mainly on the domestic market.

In the following years, Oponeo.pl S.A. has strengthened its market position, recording year-on-year increases in net profits. In 2021 when the company celebrated its 20th birthday, net profit was 95.65% higher than in the previous year. Despite the declines in the market in 2022, Oponeo.pl S.A. generated revenues of PLN 1,695,103 thousand.

In May 2022, Oponeo.pl's logistics centre was moved to a new location in Zelgoszcz, near Lodz. A modern warehouse of more than 72,000 m2 was launched there.

The Company's development is illustrated by statistics on the successive growth of the workforce. At the end of the third quarter of 2023, the entire Group employed 551 people.

In addition to its e-commerce activities, Oponeo.pl has been blogging about tyres and motoring for years and provides a database of independent reviews. Since 2017, it has been carrying out the Driver Friendly Cities Ranking. The company is also committed to Bydgoszcz.

In addition to the main portal, which is also the company's brand - oponeo.pl, the company has foreign tyre shops: oponeo.de, oponeo.es, oponeo.fr, oponeo.it, oponeo.at, oponeo.co.uk, oponeo.nl, oponeo.ie, oponeo.cz, oponeo.sk, oponeo.be and oponeo.hu.

The shop's call centre serves customers from 13 countries. Oponeo.pl has also been developing cooperation with partner sites since 2010. Currently, Polish customers can benefit from the services of 1085 workshops across the country, where the ordered tyres are replaced. In all markets, the number of workshops exceeds 6 thousand.

The Oponeo.pl S.A. Capital Group also includes other e-commerce sites, including, amongst others, a bicycle shop CentrumRowerowe.pl, owned by Dadelo S.A. and the power tools and tools shop narzędzia.pl,owned by Rotopino.pl S.A..

Logistics Centre

Since May 2022 Oponeo.pl S.A. has exclusively used a modern logistics centre in Zelgoszcz, near Lodz. The storage area is more than 72,000 m2, which is sufficient to accommodate 1.8 million tyres and approximately 200,000 rims. Up to 60 thousand tyres can be shipped daily.

Previously, from June 2016 to May 2022 Oponeo.pl S.A. used its own logistics centre, located in the Bydgoszcz Industrial and Technological Park. Initially, the area of the centre was 12,500 m², and after expansion in the following years, it was 28,000 m². A second distribution point was located near Wroclaw. The logistics centres stored tyres ( up tp 1.25 million untis) and rims. Up tp 40,000 tyres were shipped per day.

Sport

As of the 2018/2019 season, the company is a sponsor of the women's volleyball team KS Pałac Bydgoszcz. Oponeo.pl S.A. was awarded the title of Bronze Patron of Bydgoszcz Sport for this cooperation.

Support from the company also goes to young female footballers from the local UKS Tęcza Bydgoszcz team, as well as Rafał Wilk who is preparing for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The company is a co-organiser of the “Oponeo Holidays with Chemik” (Oponeo Wakacje z Chemikiem) campaign, in which children and young people participate in free football training, run by the Bydgoszcz Sports Club „Chemik”.

Since 2016, a nationwide campaign "Oponeo Supports the Young" (Oponeo wspiera młodych) has been organised, in which youth football teams from all over the country receive financial support. In 2017, the company was a strategic partner of the "Smiling Day” (Uśmiechnięty Dzień). The company is also involved in projects such as "Sport Summer with Oponeo and Bergovia Sports Academy” (Sportowe Lato z Oponeo i Akademią Sportu Bergovia) and "Holidays with AP Little Champions" (Wakacje z AP Małych Mistrzów).

Oponeo has been involved in the development of motorsport since 2014, including through the activities of the Oponeo Motorsport Association. It brings together rally and racing drivers. It organises training sessions and training for racing licences for drivers. It is involved in social campaigns for road safety. It also runs its own rally team. Between 2014-2016 Oponeo sponsored the Folkrace Oponeo Cup, an amateur gravel and asphalt track race for competitors with a BC racing licence. The event had the rank of the Bydgoszcz District Championships. From 2016 to 2019, it was also involved in the organisation and promotion of the Polish Rallycross Championship series. Oponeo acted as title sponsor of the event from 2017 to 2019. In addition to the national events, team Oponeo drivers also participated in the Lithuanian Rallycross Championship, the Czech Rallycross Championship, the Baltic Series Rallycross Cup, and the FIA CEZ Central European Championship. In 2021 and 2022, the Oponeo team participated in the prestigious FIA European Rallycross Championship, racing successfully on tracks in France, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, and Belgium, among others. Oponeo.pl continues to be linked to the rallying community and is involved in various forms of support for motorsport.

Social and environmental activities

Oponeo.pl S.A. has for years been involved in social projects locally as well as nationwide. Among other things, it has supported UNICEF activities by taking part in the „Gifts without Boxes” (Prezenty bez Pudła) project in 2022 and 2021.

Since 2017, the „Ranking of driver-friendly cities” has been published on the oponeo.pl blog, which gathers up-to-date data on the road situation in the largest cities in Poland. At the same time, the company is involved in social campaigns for road safety, including „50+ on the road' and 'Fashion for reflectors”.

Oponeo.pl S.A. also runs a pro-environmental, nationwide campaign „Recycling is what makes us thrive”, during which collections of waste, including used tyres, are carried out. For every 4 tyres collected, the company plants a tree. As a result, 11.487 tyres were collected and 2872 trees were planted in 2022, and 14.929 in 2023, resulting in 3732 plantings.

As part of its environmental activities, Oponeo.pl has been running its own apiary called „Podlesna Apiary” (Pasieka Podleśna) since 2021.
