Tamaz Chaghalidze is a citizen of Georgia who traveled to Syria to volunteer as a fighter for the Islamic State.[1][2] Chaghalidze has been described as the most active recruiters of other Georgian to volunteer in the Islamic State. Chaghalidze's writings have been analyzed for threats they contain to Georgia.[3][4]
Chaghalidze is from Georgia's Adjara Autonomous Region, and is a member of the Kist ethnic group, a group with close ethnic ties to Chechens.[2]
In late 2014 Chagalidze rose to national prominence for publishing what the Georgian Journal described as a "raving threat" against Georgians.[5]
