Sunnyside Loop is an anticlockwise streetcar loop operated by the Toronto Transit Commission to turn back westbound 501 Queen streetcars. It is located at the northeast corner of The Queensway and Sunnyside Avenue, adjacent to their Roncesvalles Carhouse property.[1] in the Sunnyside district of Toronto, Canada
Streetcars can only enter the loop westbound from The Queensway and exit southbound on Sunnyside Avenue to return eastbound. There is normally no passenger access.
The loop has also been used to facilitate special services like the Toronto Caribbean Carnival[2] and was formerly the terminus of the 313 Jane night bus. [3]
History
[edit]It was opened on July 26, 1922, a year after the newly created public TTC took over operating Toronto's streetcars from the private Toronto Railway Corporation, when its contract expired.[4] A bus terminal was added on December 21, 1936.
