Colonel Steven G. Yamashita took over command of Joint Detention Group at the Guantanamo internment camps, on June 27, 2018.[1] He replace Colonel Steven Gabavics.

On July 11, 2018, a hearing was held, in Washington, DC, for 8 Guantanamo captives.[2] A video link was set up, so the captives could participate, but Yamashita told the court he had not brought them to Guantanamo's video facility because his command lacked sufficient transport vehicles.
