Lara Johnston is an American singer/songwriter.[1] She is the daughter of a founding member of The Doobie Brothers, and has frequently served as the opening act at their concerts.
Johnston appeared on the reality TV show Rock the Cradle, where the children of rock stars competed with one another, in 2008.[2] Johnston, the youngest contestant, ranked fifth of nine. In 2011 she was a contestant on American Idol, while still a student in the popular music program, at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music.[3] The TMZ website reported Johnston performed at private parties while a student at USC. The New York Post reported Johnston routinely made the Dean's list, while at USC.[4]

Lara hasn't been idle waiting for her "Idol" fate to be revealed, though. Since auditioning last summer, Johnston — a music major at University of Southern California and a Dean's List student every semester she's been there, according to her online bio — has been playing gigs around campus, performing as recently as last Friday.
