The historic village of Magnetawan formed where one of the first roads in northern Ontario, a "colonial road" connecting Rousseau, Ontario and Nipissing, Ontario, crossed the Magnetawan River.[1] In 1998 village was amalgamated with other nearby communities into an administratrative township also named Magnetawan.
