In 1992 Bombardier Transportation acquired its Bombardier Thunder Bay plant.[1] The plant was first opened in 1913, as Canadian Car and Foundry.

The plant built a dozen minesweepers for the French Navy, during World War One.[1]

Other owners include Hawker Siddeley Canada and the Urban Transport Developemnt Corporation UTDC
