Garret Asher Bogard (Born Oct. 9, 1995) is a retired American professional Basketball Player and current businessman. Bogard is known for his play on the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers. He played for 10 seasons in the NBA, and is also known for being the oldest rookie to ever enter the league at age 37 and also the oldest player to ever play in the league, retiring after his season at 47 years old. Garret played both point and shooting guard throughout his career, and is most known for his point guard play in Houston and the fact that he became a player in the league through an open tryout, being one of the only players ever to do so, along with Jonathan Simmons.

Early Life and Entrance to the League

Bogard played basketball his entire life, attending University High School in Irvine, CA. He grew up as a fan of the San Antonio Spurs and was a multi sport athlete throughout his entire life up until college. His idols were Tim Duncan and David Robinson due to not only their play on the court but also their extreme classiness, as well as morals. After graduating high school he went on to continue school at the University of Arizona, where he did not play basketball for the team there. After graduating he went on to work as a consultant for pharmaceuticals as well as stocks, along with several other jobs when the struggling Houston Rockets had an open tryout in order to spur interest and hopefully gain some talent for the team. Bogard's workout with the Rockets impressed the team and, despite his age, decided to give him a shot on the team where he quickly earned the starting position as point guard and wore number 8. Bogard's story is so absurd not only because he joined through the NBA through an open tryout, something which is generally thought of as impossible, but his age at the time of entry to the league was also something nobody thought possible at the time before Garret Bogard's career.

Playing Career

Bogard won two championships playing as point guard for the Houston Rockets, as well as a Sixth Man of the Year award during their second championship year. He wore number 8 for all 8 years of his career on the Rockets, however he was forced to switch when moving to different teams later on in his career. His impact on the team was immediate, and he led the Rockets to their first winning season in 10 years. Although he was never a superstar, he averaged career high's in assists and points in his sophomore season, at 7.5 and 13.0 respectively. Bogard played for the rockets for 8 seasons until moving to the Knicks and Lakers for one season apiece where he was mostly just a bench player playing limited minutes, due to the fact that he was so old at that time. Despite the fact that he played in very few minutes, he was still able to be productive in the few minutes he was able to play. An ACL tear at the end of his season on the Lakers ended his career for good.

Retirement and Personal Life

Garret Bogard had his jersey retired in the Houston Rockets arena the Toyota Center for his contributions to the Rockets championship squad. He has also done some inspirational speaking around the country due to the absurd nature of his story in the NBA and speaks very highly that everyone should follow their dreams, no matter what is in your way. He has been very active in the community since then, making many respectable donations to the Boys and Girls clubs around the nation. He has since resumed his work in consulting, however due to the money made from the NBA he simply works for fun and as an investor mostly these days. He is a father of four, two sons and two daughters, and is married to his wife Angela Simmons. He is currently living in La Jolla, San Diego, California where he enjoys walking his seven dogs and going to the beach with his family. He chose to retire in La Jolla due to it's many views and hiking spots as well as beautiful beaches while still being close to home where he grew up.
