International Decade for People of African Descent Summit - IDPAD-Summit was held in Georgetown Guyana on March 7-11, 2018.[1] The Summit was organized by a local committee which was chaired by Dr. Melissa Varswyk, UN OHCHR Human Rights Fellow 2017.[2] The summit welcomed experts from the fields of Health, Education, ICT, Human Rights and Finance and Business from across the world to address "Where we are", Where we ought to be" and How do we get there by 2024 and beyond".
Goal
[edit]The theme for the summit was ‘Where we are, Where we ought to be, How we get there.’ The International Decade for People of African Descent Summit (IDPAD-S) 2018 brought African descendants from around the world to focus on eradicating the plight of Africans and African descendants through the implementation of possible solutions to issues affecting the race. The Summit encouraged attendees to collaborate more fully across disciplines to share working models that have been effective in the development of Africans and African descendants and their communities. It provided an environment conducive to openly discuss the serious issues facing them, as well as the solutions they envision to address the problems, and ways of implementing these solutions.[3]
