So, as of 2019, the Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias and subproject Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias/Gender gap task force have become ... well, not completely moribund, but not nearly as active as they had been. Which is a shame, because I believe in their goals: that Wikipedia, due to the nature of the beast, is mostly written by technically savvy first world males, so contains a lot less coverage of women and black and brown people than it otherwise might. When they were more active, I would write a few articles that they suggested needed writing, to do just a little bit to help out the imbalance.

However, also as of 2019, there is a person named Jess Wade, user Jesswade88 (talk · contribs) (who also has an article about her, but here I'm mostly concerned about her as a Wikipedia editor), who has been creating an article about "biographies of women, black and minority ethnic and LGBTQ+ scientists", almost every day. Really. (This Guardian article says 270, but she is far closer to 365, or over.) She's actually been doing it since 2018, but I only noticed as much in 2019, where there was a minor foofarah about someone trying to delete some of her articles. This is really impressive, and far, far more energy than I have! But maybe I can, again, help out just a bit. So here is my list of images that I have found for those articles. I can normally find a free image for maybe 20% of subjects that I look for; but with targets being created at the rate of one a day, that's a pretty fertile field! And finding an image is much easier than writing a whole article; but they do say each is worth a thousand words... She seems to like it.

(Emily Temple-Wood, user Keilana (talk · contribs), used to do something similar, but mostly stopped in 2016; which is, in a way, good, because I understand she was mostly creating a woman scientist bio article whenever someone annoyed her, so I'm guessing fewer people are annoying her now? At least I hope that's the case. She's still pretty impressive, getting Wikimedian of the year in 2016; I have a motivational quote from her on the top of my user page.)

The main problem is finding a freely licensed image, one that allows anyone to modify and reuse, like the rest of the Wikipedia. Some of the below are definitely better than others; beggars can't be choosers; the fuzzy ones are probably from videos.

Maryam Z Articles

Jess Wade's friend Maryam, Webmz (talk · contribs), also regularly creates female scientist Wikipedia articles, without getting as many newspaper articles written about her. She doesn't make one every day, and seems to be generally better at finding or making images for her articles on her own, between which combination I have been able to add noticeably fewer images to her articles. Still, her work is appreciated, and I hope this helps.

Microglia145 (talk · contribs) is another (or at least created a female scientist article a day for much of 2020!). Don't know if I can manage to keep up with all of these, but it's worth a try.
