MagnaView is a software and services company based in Eindhoven that specializes in interactive, visual data analysis.
History
[edit]MagnaView started in 2003 as an informal cooperation between at the time self-employed consultant Erik-Jan van der Linden and Jack van Wijk's visualization group at Eindhoven University of Technology.
While being involved in various management information and nationwide benchmarking projects, van der Linden noticed that the return of investments of data analysis sharply increases if results are presented to users, in particular to professionals, in a strong visual and interactive way.
Van Wijk’s group had developed Cushioned Squarified Treemaps and had applied this in SequoiaView.
Roel Vliegen, a graduate student in computer science, as well as computer graphics artist[1], and at present MagnaView CTO, joined in 2004, and developed a combination of treemaps and traditional business graphics[2], which served as the basis of MagnaView’s first products.
The cooperation of van der Linden, van Wijk and Vliegen led to the actual founding of MagnaView in 2005. Other innovations were developed for generating color palettes[3].
MagnaView is used by customers in six countries on three continents in health care, education, legal and in hrm, as well as in other branches.[1]
Products and services
[edit]MagnaView offers products for in-memory, interactive, visual data analysis. Products are a Windows-based Viewer and a number of products for easy data exploration, Explorer, development of data analyses, Designer, and creation of full business intelligence applications, Designer Pro. [4]
Besides, web-based products are part of MagnaView Enterprise Suite.
MagnaView offers full-service BI in conjunction with these products.
Awards
[edit]MagnaView was nominee for the European ICT-prize[5] and Nominee for the Dutch ICT-regie prize. [6]
MagnaView Chief Scientific Officer Jack van Wijk was awarded various awards in the area of data visualization as well as cartography [7] [8]
