Zander Hattingh is a South African born singer/songwriter. Zander was born in Pretoria, South Africa on the 11th of March 1977. He started playing the piano in his early childhood and soon started writing his own songs.
After school Zander moved to Johannesburg where he started studying Optometry at the University of Johannesburg (Formerly RAU). At university Zander got involved in various musical activities, which included the RAU choir. During this time Zander started writing a lot of songs, especially in the Afrikaans genre.
In 2003, Zander entered an Afrikaans Reality music show called Zing and ended up in the top 25 with his singing partner Morne van Loggerenberg. After Zing Zander entered the ATKV (Afrikaans Language an Cultural Society) Crecendo singing competition and ended up in the top 5. Zander established himself as a songwriter in 2004 as five of the top ten Crescendo songs were written by him.
Shortly after Crescendo 2004, Zander managed to get a record deal with the record company Gallo. He released his first album in 2005, titled “Alles” (Everything). The pop rock ballad “Vanaand” (Tonight) was the first hit from the album and the video got aired on the Afrikaans Music Channel MK89. Zander’s first album was nominated for two SAMA’s (South African Music Awards). He was also nominated for the SABC2 “Geraas” (Noise) music awards. His latest album “Vlieg jy” was released in 2006. Zander received 5 Afrikaans music awards for this album, which included best male vocal, best lyrics and best sound engineer. The hit single “Wonder” (Directly translated to Wonder) is currently playing on radio stations all over the country, and the video of this song has also been aired on MK89.
