Playscii
[edit]Playscii is an open source ASCII art & animation program including PETSCII fonts and many others, can also make games using Python 3.
This tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (requires manual compilation from source) this program can be ran on pretty much anything (CRT effect demands high CPU though).
History
[edit]Early development (2014)
[edit]Playscii started development somewhere around December 2014. The first consisted of a simple application that you used your mouse to move around a cursor on a grid and draw using a fixed Commodore 64 PETSCII font with a fixed Commodore 64 color palette. The program was quite basic and didn't include a CRT effect or anything, just a basic ASCII drawing program.
Later development (2015)
[edit]Later on, the developer(s) decided to add more features like custom color palettes and fonts. Then they went on and added small features for a while, then they added the CRT effect. After that, they added stuff like the topbar and more tools. Then the program was pretty much like it is today.
