Little Devil Inside is an upcoming video game developed by Neostream. Initially announced on Kickstarter in 2015, the game focuses on various characters that travel to different locations to track and study monsters, surviving each mission along the way.
Gameplay
[edit]Little Devil Inside is an action role-playing game set in a fictitious Victorian era world.[1] The player controls various characters that get sent on trips outside of the main city setting in order to study different monsters. Each character has different statistics and personality traits that affect gameplay.[1] Players must plan each trip, travel to each location, and then survive each mission.[2] Little Devil Inside contains permadeath game mechanics, where player cannot continue to play characters after they die. To expand how many characters one can play, players must interview other characters and recruit them.[1] Neostream also indicated that the game would have multiplayer cooperative gameplay.[2]
Development
[edit]Little Devil Inside is developed by Neostream, a company that originally started in 1998 creating multimedia, but had transitioned to game development.[3][4] After starting development in 2013,[2] the game was originally announced on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in 2015.[5] The developers raised over $200,000, and Little Devil Inside was originally expected to be released in December 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.[6] Neostream released a video showing gameplay features from a test version of the game in December 2017, giving a new estimated release year of 2018.[7] A snow level was showcased in 2019.[8][9]
At one point, Little Devil Inside was developed using the Unity game engine. However, in a 2017 interview, Neostream revealed that they moved away from using Unity.[1] In 2018, it was announced that Neostream received a monetary grant from Epic Games to help Neostream develop Little Devil Inside using Epic Games' Unreal Engine.[10]
During the reveal event for the PlayStation 5 on June 11, 2020, Neostream released a trailer for Little Devil Inside, confirming that the game would be available for the console.[11] On June 13, Neostream released a statement announcing plans to change enemy designs. This was due to public feedback on how a tribal enemy shown in the PlayStation 5 trailer resembled racial stereotypes of Africans.[12][13][14]
