Production
[edit]Following the release of Hosoda's previous film, Mirai, the director mentioned that his next film would be different from the one before.[6] In a press release, Hosoda noted that Belle was a film that he always wanted to make, and that he was finally able to start this project after gaining experience from directing his previous films.[7][8] By October 2020, he had finished the storyboards for Belle.[9]
Music
[edit]Taisei Iwasaki is the film's music director and composer.[5][10] The main theme song for Belle, "U", is composed by Daiki Tsuneta and sung by Kaho Nakamura. Tsuneta, a singer-songwriter from the band King Gnu and the experimental music groiup Millennium Parade, was approached by Hosoda to create an opening theme for the film.[11][12]
Release
[edit]Belle is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2021 in Japan.[13] The film was first announced on December 15, 2020.[14]
