Article Evaluation
[edit]Intro
[edit]I first heard about Ketamine through a video game I saw back in 2020 called "Mr. Krabs Overdoses on Ketamine[1]". I wasn't too sure what it was, and I wanted to get to know more about its uses in the medical field and how society views its usage. So, I visited the Ketamine article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: it's medical uses and the contradictions of it, the current research, and societal uses.
Medical Uses and contradictions
[edit]When reading about the medical uses of ketamine, it was pretty interesting to see how not only is ketamine a party drug, but it can also be used as medicine for those suffering from things like PTSD, depression, seizures, etc. Yet reading through the article, there are some side effects/contradictions of ketamine that seems a little concerning such as severe cardiovascular diseases, urinary and liver toxicity (cystitis, hydronephrosis and kidney failure), and the potential dependency and tolerance to it. So maybe I think especially the 'Contradictions' portion of this article, maybe just a little bit more information or images for the laity to understand more.
Research
[edit]The research portion of this article is good but my only downside to this section though is how little information there is. Granted there may not be so much development as of yet but I think maybe updating once in a while with new information that has been found could be beneficial. Also, another item that should probably be under this section is the lethality of mixing ketamine with other substances such as alcohol. You could probably just google it up, but I was thinking since it is an article about ketamine, that it probably should have something regarding these sorts of information.
Societal uses
[edit]I was reading the section about the use of Ketamine[2] in society and it does a good job of giving the rundown of the legality and the uses of the Ketamine other than for medical purposes. But I noticed how the article doesn't really mention anything about the notable users[3]. This is a pretty important fact that should be noted reason being, it would give the demographic who are frequent users of Ketamine a "false" sense of comfort knowing that someone famous somewhere in the world is also using it recreationally.
Conclusion
[edit]Overall, I think this article on Ketamine is really good in terms of normal facts with the exception of missing some information on its notable users, the updates on its research and more information on the contradictions with ketamine. This article definitely gives great information on its chemical structure, history, medical uses and all that good jazz but I think maybe there should be a few details that can give users more knowledge of this drug.
