From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of engravings made from designs by 16th century Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder . While only one engraving made by Bruegel personally is known, many engravings were made after designs by Bruegel especially made for the purpose. As not all engravings have the name of the designer on them, it is not absolutely certain how many engravings Bruegel made. At one time, more than 250 were attributed to him, but later scholarship has reduced this number considerably.[ 1]
Most important and prolific was Bruegel's collaboration with Hieronymus Cock , an artist turned printmaker and -seller. At first, around 1555, Bruegel made a series of landscapes for Cock, and then he created some of best known works, satirical moralistic designs in the vein of the works of Hieronymus Bosch .[ 1]
