There have been nine air disasters involving sports teams in which two or more members of the same sports team have been killed.
- In 1949 most of the Torino A.C. senior squad were killed in a plane crash outside Turin.
- In 1950, the entire VVS Moscow team was killed in a air disaster near Sverdlovsk.
- In 1956, CFL Players from the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers were killed returning from the All Star game on Trans Canada Flight 810.
- In 1958 a number of players of the Manchester United football team were killed in a plane crash in Munich.
- In 1961, the entire U.S. figure skating team died in the crash of SABENA Airlines Flight 548 in Brussels, Belgium, while en route to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
- In 1970, most of the Marshall University American football team was killed in a plane crash in West Virginia.
- In 1987, the entire Alianza Lima team was killed in an air disaster near Lima, Peru.
- In 1993, the entire Zambia national football team was killed along with all of their coaching staff and the crew of the airplane in the Zambia national football team air disaster.
