User:Filll/Peaceful Polling Pledge/Reasons not to explain
Appearance
There are many reasons participants in RfAs and similar polls might not want to explain their "votes", including:
- a vote based on privileged or private information
- to avoid embarassing the candidate or others
- desire not to sway others
- to avoid ridicule by those who might disagree with the reason
- to avoid creating bad feelings and ill will
- lack of interest in debating for a variety of reasons, including time requirements and disinterest in arguing or repeating oneself
- wanting to reduce the chance of being subject to threats or other intimidation tactics, and reduce the motivation of others to seek vengeance later for an "incorrect" vote.
- the vote is being cast based on the influence of some other voter, and revealing this information might cause the voter to be ridiculed, or lead to charges of cabalism.
