Open Access in Gabon; Researchers from Gabon publish articles in international Open Access journals, for example 62 articles have been published with BioMed Central – an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher which has pioneered the Open Access publishing model – and among them there are highly accessed articles by researchers from Medical Research Unit, Albert Schweitzer Hospital, Centre International de Recherches Médicales de Franceville (CIRMF), Ministry of Health, Centre International de Recherches Médicales de Franceville, Department of Parasitology, Mycology and Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Université des Sciences de la Santé (USS), Malaria Clinical Research Unit, Centre Hospitalier de Libreville, Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, and Département de Parasitologie-Mycologie-Médecine Tropicale, Faculté de Médecine de Libreville.
30 articles have been published in Public Library of Science (PLoS) international Open Access journals: PLoS ONE, PLoS Medicine and PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.
As of June 2015, there are seven open access articles published in Gabon which are indexed in the OMICS database. Since 2007, OMICS Group International has been instrumental in taking the knowledge on Science and Technology and making it freely and openly accessible to all. OMICS Group also organizes a large number of international conferences annually across the globe, where knowledge transfer takes place through debates, round table discussions, poster presentations, workshops, symposia and exhibitions.
As indicated by OA policy registries such as ROARMAP, there exists a need for the implementation of OA policies at the national and institutional levels.
