Article Critique
[edit]I recently got a new puppy who is a mixed breed but has a lot of Staffordshire Terrier in her. When I wanted to learned more about her main breed I got on Wikipedia and looked it up. When I got to the American Staffordshire Terrier page, I felt a bit disappointed. All her other breeds had so much information on their pages except for her main breed. I found that there are three aspects on the American Staffordshire Terrier page worth commenting on: its lack of information, outdated information, and unusable citations.
Lack of Information
[edit]One thing that I noticed while looking at all these dog breeds is how much information they have on them. Dog breeds like German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers have huge sections on temperament, origins, and origins of names. On the other hand, the American Staffordshire Terrier only has a couple sentences on temperament and has no section on origin, name origin, popularity, etc. I don't think the information presented at the moment represents the breed very well. Because of this, I would like to add or see something added about some more in-depth information about the breed.
Outdated Information
[edit]The page does have links to some books or documentaries about the American Staffordshire Terrier so that you can learn more about them from different sources. These sources; however, are outdated and reach as old as 1956. The newest source listed is still only from 2010 which was 8 years ago. This breed is pretty controversial so it would be beneficial to update sources frequently considering that the opinions of the breed are also frequently changing.
Unusable Citations
[edit]Along with outdated information it also has some dead links. Some of the links under the references section lead to a page that does not work or does not exist anymore. I think the information on the page could be found in multiple areas so it would just a be a matter of finding new sources to give credit to. I also think that there should be less bias sources that are used because some sources are bias towards breed legislation.
Summary
[edit]In conclusion, I think this page gives enough information for someone to get the basics of what this breed of dog is like. I would recommend looking at other sources and not just the wiki page to get a better idea of the breed if they were truly interested. It has barely any information about temperament and some sources are outdated but new information can easily be added with a little bit of research. The unusable citations can also just be removed and the information along with it can be found in a different source to replace the old ones.
(Sidenote: As part of this assignment, I edited a grammar mistake and posted on the talk section.)
