Article Evaluation

At the start of reading the article titled “Social Work” I was immediately introduced with the definition. I appreciated this because it quickly informs you about what topic you are fixing to read about. Also, if a user were coming to this page just to get a quick definition of Social Work, they would have what they needed without having to look too far. The content of this article is very well separated. It started off with a general definition of what social work was and then took us into the history, and the qualifications to become a social worker and even gave us examples of people in history whom have researched and practiced in the field of Social Work. My favorite part was that under the section of “Transtheoretical Models” there were a multitude of examples of how different theories were applied in different areas of the field. Being that I have previous knowledge of Social Work, I can attest to how important it is to see it applied in many different settings to fully grasp the idea behind it. The article content remained very clear and fact based and had ample sources to click on for further information regarding each topic. There was even a section on how to obtain a degree in Social Work, what a great addition for anyone who was slightly intrigued in the profession.

It is obvious that this article was meant to be informative. The author does a great job at not throwing in any personal affiliations or opinions about their encounters with this topic. The only thing that I would have changed about this article is the amount of external links they had. I understand the purpose behind them because it keeps the article from seeming too prolific in length but to the eye it is a little distracting. Aside from that, I think this article serves its purpose to many viewers. If someone wanted to just get a quick glimpse or idea of what Social Work was then this article does just that. Also, if someone was wanting to gain a more in depth knowledge of Social Work and the many influencers that paid tribute to this idea they would benefit from this article as well.

The references and outside links appear to be credible and are used in a useful way. The few that I clicked on took me directly to the article or website that it was referencing. I really appreciated the section about “Professional Associations.” The author made sure to not only site US Associations. There were international and UK ones. This makes the article appealing to anyone from any background and I think it was very appropriate to include other countries. Also, other countries were referenced in not just this section but also many others.

As far as the talk page goes, there were more people interested in adding content to the article rather than degrading or bashing anything actually stated in the article. This reflects well on the author. I would much rather peoples comments be about adding to the article to enhance it rather than having a problem or disagreement with what was actually stated. All in all, I give “Social Work” thumbs up. I found it very informative, neutral, and the layout is appealing. It does not appear dreadful to read and if I were in need of quick reliable information with credible additional sources I would not hesitate to use this article.
