[edit]Pinterest is an image sharing and social media service designed to enable saving and discoveries of information on the internet using images, and on a smaller scale, animated GIFs and videos, in the form of pinboards.[1] Pinterest is a great network for businesses to connect with their audience, whether it's B2C marketing or B2B marketing. It also fulfills all the important objectives of social media marketing: raising brand awareness, community building, driving traffic to your website and enhancing relationships with customers.[2]
Different Types of Advertisements on Social Media
[edit]- Product Advertisements: Promotion videos or posts that are shown on social media.
- Brand Deals: An agreement between a company and influencer to show a product on their account. This brings attention to the brand using a new influencer that may attract a different target audience.
- Political Advertisements: Videos or campaign posts to benefit political figures. These advertisements may address an issue or an attack on another opponent.
These posts can be distributed by the app itself or an influencer can post it through their brand deal. Advertisements on social media can be in the form of an image or a video montage with different clips. Social media allows advertisements to be distributed to the target audience.
Advertising campaigns
[edit]Skittles “Taste the Rainbow”
[edit]The Skittles campaign was able to reach their target audience by creating a sensational feeling through their advertising video. The slogan means you can taste the colors of the skittles drawing in more customers. [3]
Always “#LikeAGirl”
[edit]The #LikeAGirl campaign was launched in 2014 to encourage young girls to be confident in their skin. The campaign is one of the top advertising slogans in the world bringing attention to feminine hygiene products.[4]
Social Media Marketing in Sports
[edit]Social media has become the "most influential and important virtual space where the platform is not only used for social networking but is also a great way of digitally advertising your brand and your products."[5] Recently, there has been an increase in sports marketing, as teams and clubs began to recognize the importance of building a relationship with their fans and other audiences through social media. The rise of sports marketing has also helped to promote athletes within those teams and clubs.
Name, Image, and Likeness
[edit]On June 30, 2021, the NCAA adopted a new policy where “college athletes will have the opportunity to benefit from their name, image, and likeness.”[6]
Brands would be utilizing an athlete’s NIL through marketing and/or promotional efforts, allowing the college athlete to receive compensation. Following the rule change, many athletes have secured brand deals, one being LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne. With her already massive social media following due to gymnastics, Dunne has become a millionaire at the age of 20. She posts on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat to help promote companies and build her image.[7] Implementing the name, image, and likeness policy has changed the game for athletes wanting to play sports in college because they are now able to be “paid” for their athletic abilities outside of their school.
