Plot Builder is a visual novel / screenplay / story organizational tool with embedded screenwriting software and novel writing software. Users can visually plot story chapters / scenes and sub-plots against an excitement graph, which follows a three-act timeline. This allows the writer to visualize how their story will unfold and when key events will take place. When a chapter / scene is opened, Plot Builder's word processor launches. The word processor looks / feels almost exactly like Microsoft Word 2007. Writings can be exported to a varity of popular formats including Microsoft Word Docx and Adobe PDF.
While writing, Plot Builder uses three main templates: Screenplay, Novel, or Custom. In the Screenplay template, the user can write in industry standard format by moving easily between formatting elements: Scene Heading / Shot, Action, Character, Dialog, Parenthetical, and Transition using the Enter / Tab keys or the drop-down interface. In the Novel template, paragraphs are properly spaced according to industry standard with correct chapter and title headings. The Custom template is a generic template that allows the user to write similar to any word processor without restriction.
Plot Builder is owned and developed by Wilsibs, LLC headquarted in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
History
[edit]Plot Builder was originally conceived by brothers Douglas and Andrew Wilson in December, 2006. Douglas was an aspiring novelist and wanted software to organize story chapters and notes. Andrew was attending film school at Brooks Institute and saw Plot Builder as an opportunity to create screenplay software that was easier to use and more intuitive than the existing, leading software. Both brothers collaborated together over the course of 2 years in order to develop Plot Builder - releasing it for sale in August, 2009. Andrew designed the program functionality and user interface while Douglas programmed the application.
Reviews
