The 1976–77 season was Manchester City F.C.'s eighty-fifth season of league football, and eleventh consecutive season in the Football League First Division. This season is also considered to be the twelfth and final season of the glory era of Manchester City, which started at the appointment of the managerial partnership of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison in 1965. Though the team won no trophies this season, they did finish a narrow second in the league, and after this close placement, thus the glory era ended.
