‘’’ Hwang Hyun-jin’’’ (Korean: 황현진; born March 20, 2000), better known by his stage name ‘’’Hyunjin’’’ (Korean: 황현진), is a South Korean singer and dancer. Hyunjin is a member of the South Korean boy band Stray Kids formed by JYP Entertainment in 2017. [1]
Early life
[edit]Hwang Hyun-jin was born in Seoul, South Korea as the only child. He spent some time as a child living in Las Vegas, where he briefly attended kindergarten when he was 6-7 years old, where he would reside by the nickname Sam.[2]
Drawn to dancing during his teens, Hyun-jin studied Practical Dance at the SOPA (School of Performing Arts) in Seoul. [3]
Career
[edit]Pre-debut (2015-2017)
[edit]While he was on a shopping trip with his mother in middle school, Hyunjin was scouted by JYP Entertainment to become a trainee, and trained there for two years. [4]
As a rookie, he got interested in dancing by watching the senior trainees performing on stage, and practiced more by studying various types of dance at the School of Performing Arts (SOPA).
Stray Kids (2017–present)
[edit]Hyunjin is the dancer, rapper, singer and visual of Stray Kids. His individual picture and name were officially revealed by the company on October 12, 2017 at noon, for his participation in the upcoming survival show Stray Kids.[5] He was introduced with the roles "Rap" and "Dance". On the final episode of the show on December 19, 2017, it was confirmed that Hyunjin would debut with the boy group.
On March 26, 2018, Hyunjin debuted with the mini album I am NOT as the main dancer and sub rapper of Stray Kids.
On February 16, 2019, he became a fixed MC on Show! Music Core.
In December 2019, he joined KBS project group BBANGBBANGZ with Yoon Sanha, Choi Bomin and Lee Daehwi.
On May 9, 2020, he released a dance performance he choreographed on "when the party's over" by Billie Eillish, as part of the SKZ-PLAYER series.
On December 21, 2020, he released the self composed song "miss you" as part of the SKZ-PLAYER series.
In February 2021, he went on a hiatus following school bullying allegations. He didn't participate in any activities during this period, including Mnet's competition show Kingdom: Legendary War. He resumed activities on June 26, 2021, with his appearance in the music video for the digital single Mixtape : OH.
In October 2021, he was selected as STUDIO CHOOM's "Artist Of The Month", with a special dance performance on "Motley Crew" by Post Malone.
On August 13, 2022, he released the self composed song "ice.cream" as part of the SKZ-RECORD series.
On December 21, 2022, Hyunjin participated in writing and composing his original solo song "Love Untold" for the best album SKZ-REPLAY.
On July 20, 2023, it was announced that Hyunjin became a Global Brand Ambassador for Versace.
On August 2, 2023, Hyunjin opened his personal Instagram account.
On August 31, 2023, he was featured on a remix single of "Rush" by Troye Sivan.

Artistry and Image
[edit]Hyunjin's dancing is known for its theatricality. Both his body movements and facial expressions can rapidly switch from fluid and relaxed, to jerky and sharp, which makes him stand out for the performance aspect of the group. [7]His visuals are called "trendy" and his long hair has been often a hot topic. [8][9]

[edit]In July 2023, Luxury brand Versace named Hyunjin as their global ambassador. The same year in December, he participated in their endorsement for their winter collection. [11]
