Unitemps is an employment agency specialising in temporary work. It is based in the Students Union at the University of Warwick. The company was founded in 1996 as a part of the Warwick Business Services Group, which includes two other recruitment services: AdsFab and jobs.ac.uk.
Although Unitemps is principally aimed at student recruitment, it is not limited to this.
History
[edit]Unitemps was founded in 1996, principally as an employment agency to service the University of Warwick. It has since grown, and provides workers to a number of organisations in the surrounding Warwickshire area.
Since its success at the University of Warwick, Unitemps has migrated to a franchise model. There are now branches at Birmingham City University, Nottingham University and Surrey University. The University of Warwick has expressed an interest in expanding the model even further.[1]
Sociological Implications
[edit]There has been a growing trend in the United Kingdom of Universities hiring their own students, particularly since the abolition of grants.[2]
The University of Warwick has claimed that sourcing temporary work from their own agency has saved them 20% in agency fees. [3]
In the News
[edit]In 2005, the security of the Unitemps database was compromised, and the details of over 8,000 candidates were deleted in a malicious attack.[4] [5]
