Bio
[edit]About me
[edit]I am an international student from Tokyo, Japan attending a community college in the United States. My hobbies are traveling, playing basketball, and playing guitar. I am interested in the culture and history of various countries. I studied abroad in Spain for a year when I was a high school student, so I speak Spanish and Japanese. I am currently studying English.
My Wikipedia interests
[edit]If I am active on Wikipedia in the future, I will be introducing Japanese culture. Japan has creating a truly unique traditional culture.[1] For example, traditional events are held in each of the four seasons, and the unique Japanese character of Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana. I would like to active information about my country's culture and make it known to as many people as possible.
Article evaluation
[edit]There are many traditional events in Japan. Among them, the Coming-of-Age Ceremony, one of the biggest events in Japan, has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I wanted to make sure that people around the world had correct information about the Japanese event, so I visited the "Coming-of-Age Ceremony" article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: History,Modifications, and Citation."
History
[edit]In Wikipedia, when describing a traditional event, the long history of the event is often described in detail.
This page also describes the history of the establishment of the holiday for coming of age, but fails to mention something important in the history of coming-of-age ceremonies: that it was started by one mayor in Saitama Prefecture, which was the beginning of ceremonies for those who came of age.
Modifications
[edit]On this page, you will find that Adult's Day is celebrated on the second Monday of January each year. However, this does not mean that the ceremony is held on that day. In many cities, the ceremony is held on the Sunday before, not on the Monday.
In addition, the age of adulthood in Japan was lowered from 20 to 18 in 2018. As a result, the age of eligibility to participate in the ceremony has also changed from year to year in some cases. These recent changes have not been fixed.
Citations
[edit]On this page you will find several quotations about coming of age ceremonies. Most of them, however, are from a slightly earlier time period. Adulting ceremonies have changed in recent years due to changes in the law and other factors. Articles describing more recent events should also be included in the references section.
Conclusion
[edit]I'd rate this page as "Good". This is a good overview of traditional Japanese events. However, it has not been rewritten with new information. Also, overall, I felt that there was quite little information on coming-of-age ceremonies. I thought it was necessary to include details about the Coming-of-Age Ceremony, etc., which are not written on this page.
