Roy Waters (26 July 1928- 3 May 2010) was a teacher of English language and literature, a District Inspector for the Inner London Education Authority and a collector of theatrical ephemera. Waters's theatre collection, built up over forty years, is now housed in the Royal Holloway, University of London Archives and Special Collections.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Roy Waters was born in London in 1928, the only child of William Joseph Waters (1900-1968), a fitter at a London bus garage, and Florence Amy Walker (1902-1992).
Waters attended Kilburn grammar school as a child and won a scholarship to read English at St John's College, Cambridge in October 1949. During his time at Cambridge, Waters was the treasurer of the University ballet club.
Waters served in the Royal Air Force from 1947-1949 with the RAF Bomber Command.
Following his studies at the University of Cambridge, Waters studied for a Certificate in Education in order to fulfil his ambition of becoming an English teacher.
