Koothuparamba firing : (Malayalam :കൂത്തുപറമ്പ് വെടിവയ്പ്പ് ) Known after the Koothuparamba town in Kannur district of Kerala in India,it is the police action on November 25, 1994 following the inauguration of the 'evening branch of the Co-operative Urban Bank' in the Alakkandy Complex at Kuthuparamba - Tellicherry Road (Kannur District) by Kerala Minister for Co- operation and Ports Mr M. V. Raghavan who was once a leader of C.P.I.(M)(Communist Party of India Marxist) but was then on the opposite side with the ruling United Democratic Front forming his own party Communist Marxist Party (CMP) following his expulsion from C.P.I.(M).
Kannur is a stronghold of C.P.I.(M) and the rank and file of C.P.I.(M) particularly in their youth wing DYFI(Democratic youth federation of India) which took upon itself to prevent his visits to Kannur District. The inaguration function ensued in chaos following an agitation which DYFI termed as 'a protest against M.V. Raghavan, Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader and then Minister, for starting the medical college as a self-financing institution at Pariyaram,Kannur'.Five persons died and six persons were injured in the police firing purportedly resorted to for the protection of the Minister and of public and private properties.
As twist of history the same institution(Pariyaram Medical college) against which the CPI(M) and DYFI lead many agitation came under the management controlled by the same organization followed by several allegations on 2011 of selling governement quata seats (reserved for students on the basis of merit) and fraudulently alloting an MBBS seat for the kin of one of its member
