I am a longtime reader of Wikipedia articles, for leisure, entertainment, and occasionally for reference. I understand that many persons see the Internet as a platform for self-promotion, primarily as a means of gaining, or holding, public notoriety. I have noted articles being created on wikipedia using automated programs called 'bots'. Research across the Internet suggests these bots to be the work of a single person, or a likeminded group of persons, who wish to promote themselves anonymously. This is not only dishonest, disingenuous, and a disservice to the wikipedia community, it is foolish, for it usually can be seen for what it is. I urge the community, especially longtime contributors, who have sacrificed long hours of careful writing and editing, to carefully scrutinize these articles, and call the users of these bots to account for their work.
