Article Evaluation

[edit]

Basketball is one of my biggest passions. It always has been, and likely always will be. I have been a die-hard Golden State Warriors fan ever since the 6th grade. I regularly watch their games on TV and even got the opportunity to watch them play in person. I thought that critiquing their page might be interesting, and beneficial to other fans. I visited the Golden State Warriors article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects worth commenting on: is it up to date, is the article neutral, and are any of the sections irrelevant.

One of the most important and intriguing things to learn about when it comes to sports is statistics. Stats and information are constantly changing and must stay up to date. The result of accurate statistics gives a better understanding of how the team is doing in their current season. While looking through this article, it contained a substantial amount of history regarding the early years of basketball and the growth of the franchise. The important part about this subject is that the present stats and information are up to date, so I found a section containing that information. After researching the links provided, I was able to conclude that the stats provided on the article are as current as they can be. For instance, there is a New York Times article that was cited talking about a record breaking season of 2015-2016 in my references. This article talks about how well the team was doing, only using statistics approved by a specialist.

Another crucial element of a creditable article is it's ability to maintain a neutral tone. This article was more focused on the different eras of the team's basketball program and the statistics, rather than trying to gain fans through praising the team. All of their sources were clearly listed at the bottom of the article, and of all the links I clicked on were reputable and neutral sources. For example, many of the articles and statistics were cited through ESPN. ESPN is considered the largest, and most reliable sports hub that has ever been created which is why the information being presented can be trusted.

Finally, an article's relevance to the topic is the highest priority. Everything that is stated must be important and applicable to the team and/or basketball. Things like a teams history, standing, statistic, players, and championships are all elements that should be clearly addressed. This Wikipedia article covered several different eras, each one was outlined simply with stated facts throughout the given time period. Additionally, each subtopic was captivating and interesting to learn about, offering new information to even the most devout fan.

In conclusion, the Wikipedia article on the Golden State Warriors was well written. Their article has present information that is updated frequently. The article has no outside viewpoints or loyalties about the team and provided credible sources when stating facts. Lastly, each topic in the article was interesting and worthwhile to look through, and no parts contained irrelevancy.
