Original - The animation shows the progression of how the majority of continental North American land was partitioned after European colonization
Reason
This image is based on another animated gif that went through featured picture process. This image has improved on the earlier version and seems to meet all of the criteria: The creator has released it to the public, high res., the subject is very clear, dds value to articles about North America and provides detailed animation of more than 250 years of North American history. The image has a companion article, Non-native territorial evolution of North America 1763 to present, confirming with an inline citation each slide and historical event.

WARNING: It has a very BIG filesize, so be careful when viewing it. Ideally this file should be created in a flash format but as Wikipedia doesn't support flash we have to use the archaic gif animation format.

  • The title is in reference to "Non-Native-American" Nation's claim of (as opposed to actual control of a certain area) the three countries that make up the NAFTA agreement (Canada, USA, Mexico). People from these three countries usually refer to NAFTA countries as North America and other countries south of Mexico as central America but a global view of North America includes Central America and the Caribbean islands.
  • The image has a number of features including:
  • Large arrowed time line indicator to allow easy viewing if image is thumb nailed.
  • No Legend description so that image can used on foreign language sites. The Legend should always be included in the image comments not in the actual image.
  • Legend includes all former Non-Native Nations who Controlled territory in N America. Former nations are greyed out so not to confuse with Nations who do control territory during a specific time period.
