User:Eruhildo/WP:ARTIX article guidelines
Things you should never do (or you'll get yelled at)
[edit]- Don't ever use second person (e.g. "you")! (WP:VG/GL#Style, WP:MOS#Avoid second-person pronouns) Now for the calm and simple explanation: not everyone who reads our articles plays the game. Thus saying that the reader does something in the game when they don't even play it doesn't make any sense.
- Don't ever use "It has been confirmed". There are a hundred other ways to phrase the sentence such that it sounds more natural and not written by some geeky fan.
- Please do not include the price of anything. (WP:NOT#Sales)
- Avoid gaming jargon. (WP:VG/GL#Gaming jargon)
- Do not include a list of weapons or elements, or rather anything superflous. (WP:GAMECRUFT #6)
- Please don't say "in the xyz saga" where xyz is the name of any saga. It isn't a clear way to state things to those who have never played the game.
- Long summaries and character descriptions should be avoided if at all possible. A short, precise summary that explains major game elements is always preferable, as is a one or two sentence description telling the important facts about a character.
- If you must talk about any things that might not not be known by the reader, describe what it is before you talk about it.
Sections
[edit]Ordering/writing of sections should be done in this basic order/way:
- Gameplay
- Basics: Some of the basics of gameplay... write it as if the reader has never played the game before. This dosen't mean you should treat him/her as stupid (:P). Also, don't launch into something over specific i.e. "to walk somewhere you click on it. If there are obstacles in your way your character is stopped"... write something like: "Navigation is done with the mouse."
- Advanced (preffered you don't actually call it advanced): Some more advanced gameplay details; don't start getting too specific, or writing about something else.
- [insert]
- Synopsis
- Charcters: Every article on an Artix Entertainment game should have a list of characters. Only characters relevant to the game's plot should be included in the list of characters. A separate article for characters should not be created. One or two sentence descriptions giving important facts about the character should be sufficient. If you want, make a redirect that directs the character's name to the section he/she/it is described on. And most importantly, don't forget to write something about the main character.
- Setting: Briefly descibe the setting of the game world.
- Plot: Should concisely describe the main storyline of the game, even glossing over minor parts. Sidequests should not be mentioned, unless relevant in some way.
- [insert] (preferably some sort of section on development)
- Critical Reception: Critical reception, if any.
- Where [insert] can be anything, considering it is appropriate. The titles can be diffrent, considering... but it is reccomended what you write about is in that order.
Vandalism
[edit]An article should not be submitted to WP:RFP until it has been vandalized at six times per day for at least three days in a row by at least two different editors.
Names
[edit]"Artix Entertainment" and the games' titles should always be spelled out, as should other game elements (for example, say "Dragon Amulet" instead of "DA"). Game titles should also always be italicized wherever they appear.
Over-detail
[edit]Classes
[edit]Do not add unreleased classes. There is generally not enough information to write anything encyclopedic about them. Plus they have little relevance to the game until they can actually be used by players. Descriptions of how to unlock skills or where to find them are not necessary unless they are very significant or unusual in some way. Descriptions should, however, include a very short description of the actual armor or skills.
Towns/Cities
[edit]Only towns relevant to the game's plot should be included in a list or description of towns. Preferably, towns should not be listed, but rather described in prose form in the Setting section.
