Tartu Maraton new article content ... Tartu Maraton, held for the first time on January 16th 1960, is the oldest ski marathon of Estonia. As the first races started in Tartu, name Tartu Maraton remained even if race start area moved in 1980 close to Otepää. Now event takes place on third Sunday of February. 63 km long race course starts in Otepää, Tehvandi Sportcentre stadium and finishes close to Elva, in Tartu county sport center. There is also a 31 km long race in the program. The record of finishers is from winter 1986, when 9858 skiers crossed the finish line of the main race. Tartu Maraton is member of Worldloppet Ski Federation, uniting 15 best ski marathons of the world.[1]
