The Morgan General Mail Facility and Annex

The Morgan General Mail Facility and Annex is a United States Post Office facility located in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York City. It is bound by 28th Street, Tenth Avenue, 30th Street, and Ninth Avenue on the south, west, north, and east, respectively.

History

[edit]

In 1962, plans were announced to build a new post office annex between 28th and 29th Streets.

A fire in 1967 destroyed the Morgan Post Office Station between 29th and 30th Streets.[1]

[2] [3]

The block between 28th and 29th Streets remained undeveloped for over a decade, as the post office was not rebuilt.[4] A postal truck facility for that block was canceled due to community opposition. A new facility was eventually built in 1988, on 11th Avenue between 24th and 26th Streets.[5]
