Request from User:Vaoverland

[edit]

Hi! I have been busy working on Wikipedia: WikiProject Virginia and several other projects with User: No1lakersfan most of this past year, partially in preparation and supprt of the Jamestown 2007 event. He is now a high school senior hoping to gain admittance to one of Virginia's public university for the Fall 2007 semester. Following advice, he has done maintenance and reference adding work, as well spending time on articles. He is a good collaborator and I believe he would enhance our efforts with WP as an administrator and use the additional tools and powers wisely. Since you know me from our past communications, I wanted to request that you consider entering a vote, hopefully in support, if you agree with my judgment and recommendation at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/No1lakersfan 2.

Untagged image

[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Benedictxvi-arms-camelaucum.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 18:03, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

DYK

[edit]
Updated DYK query On 16 January, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sharps Island Light, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Wedge

[edit]

Your Wedge map at[[Image:Delaware-wedge.gif]] is great! I was wondering, though, if you could make a version where the wedge and Pennsylvania are different colors so as to prevent confusion; both being white makes one assume that the wedge is part of Pennsylvania, rather than Delaware. —ScouterSig 16:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:John_OConnor.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:John_OConnor.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:31, 13 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 19:31, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:John_OConnor.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:John_OConnor.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 19:31, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

New Real Tennis Wikia

[edit]

Wikipedia seems to be cracking down somewhat on articles that are not suitable for an encyclopaedia. For instance the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club article is marked for deletion. I've created a [Real Tennis Wikia] designed to be the font of all knowledge about real tennis. This is a good place to put information which may be not significant enough for Wikipedia's policies, not fully cited, and so forth. I wonder if you'd be able to give me a hand copying the information already on Wikipedia over there (lest it get deleted) and filling out more pages? You can catch me at: User_talk:JeremyHoward (15:58, 2007 July 9)

Could you take a look?

We are trying to find a source for this list: Talk:List_of_Skull_and_Bones_members#RfC_Summary. Could you take a look and see if you can help? ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 15:35, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikimania in Atlanta!

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 09:17, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Windsor Hotel in Americus

[edit]

Hi. I reverted your edits to the Windsor Hotel DAB page, but I wanted to let you know why and to explain that I think that the reference to the hotel in Americus could be added back. First, DAB pages (as you know) are really to distinguish between Wikipedia articles, not between all potential and existing uses of the name. We've already had a problem in the past with people adding non-notable, non-remarkable hotels with the Windsor name to the list. The DAB page is not a directory. But looking at the details/photos you added to the Americus, Georgia page, it strikes me that this particular hotel is notable, and should have its own article (even if it is a stub at first). With its own article, it should be reinserted in the DAB page. Second, I removed your photo from the DAB page, as WP:MOSDAB discourages the use of images on the DAB page. But your photos should certainly be used in article on the hotel itself. Hope that explanation helps. Skeezix1000 22:43, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Gold Coast Historic District

[edit]

Thanks for asking - a lot of folks go about these processes like bulls in china shops. Personally, I don't really see the point of creating disambiguation pages for articles that don't exist. If there was a second article created I would readily concede, but at this point I just don't see the necessity. That's my thought; that much said, WP says to be bold. • Freechild'sup? 21:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Arbonne International, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Arbonne International

[edit]

I have nominated Arbonne International, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arbonne International. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Hi. I have recently started the article Yankee Doodle Coffee Shop. Since you are listed in the category Yale Alumni, I thought you might be interesting in contributing to the article. Thanks. Yilloslime (t) 22:44, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I am a Japanese Wilipedian and interested in national parks in the United States. I have translated several articles from English to Japanese (ex.ja:ラッセン火山国立公園,ja:ビッグ・ベンド国立公園,ja:ビスケーン国立公園,ja:デナリ国立公園). I wonder if you could tell me how to pronounce "Stephen Mather" since you have edited the article several times. I guess it may be sti':vn meiðэr (cf.Help:Pronunciation) but I am not sure. Thank you in advance. --Takahashi J (talk) 15:26, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I have never attempted to use phonetic symbols before, but my best guess is that it should be: /'sti:vɪn ma:ðər/ , but the article Stephen claims that the first name is rendered as /ˈstiːvən/. I am not really sure how to pronounce "Tyng". — Eoghanacht talk 16:49, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I appreciate your promp response. --Takahashi J (talk) 16:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Enchanted-forest.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Enchanted-forest.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:26, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Your edit on "Virgin Islands" - 08/10/2006

[edit]

Dear Eoghanacht,

Sorry, I'm still something of a novice Wikipedian, so I hope this is the proper forum to address my query, to wit:

An edit you made ([as of 14:25, 10 August 2006] to the Virgin Islands article struck me such to suggest a rewording. In your edit, the caption you left was, "(steering wheels on the left, Spanish V.I.s, reword unreferenced statement of Indian murder)," and I feel the proper term would be genocide, rather than murder.

Please let me know if this is the proper manner to raise such a question.

Best,

Caen (talk) 09:06, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

While the Indians were treated brutally, I doubt there was a deliberate system for eliminating them from the islands. If anything, the Spanish would have wanted to keep them around as a labor force. Therefore, although many were deliberately killed (i.e. "murder"), the term "genocide" is probably not technically correct. However, if you find reputable scholarship making such a statement, then simply add to the text in an appropriate place, and reference your source (remembering WP:NPOV). — Eoghanacht talk 17:09, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Image:Map of USA Locator Wind Cave NP.PNG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Map of USA Locator Wind Cave NP.PNG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Source for Robinia neomexicana?

[edit]

Hi. Do you remember what source(s) you based Robinia neomexicana on, some years ago? It could be combined with the sources that are cited there now. Also, there are some disagreements with the present sources that should be straightened out. Thanks. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 04:56, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, it was too long ago. I suppose I had a passing interest in other Robina species, after I planted an R. hispida in my yard. — Eoghanacht talk 12:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
