Sydney Rae White (born 30 November 1991) is a British actress, singer, and musician.
Born in London, White was attending the Broomfield House School in Kew when she auditioned for and won the role of Cosette in the long-running West End production of Les Misérables at the age of nine.[1] Following this, she won a place at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and began her studies there in September 2002.
White was in the original cast of the 2002 stage adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium. In the 2004 production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Woman in White, she alternated the role of Corn Dolly Girl with two other young actresses, although it was White who appeared in the opening night performance and is heard on the original cast recording.[2]
White was cast in the lead role of Gerda for a recording of a musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale The Snow Queen with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The success of the CD led to staged performances at The Barbican and Cadogan Hall in London and a stadium production in Copenhagen that was broadcast live across Europe.[1] She then starred in a film version that was broadcast by the BBC on Christmas Eve 2005.[3]
In 2007, White was cast in the lead role of Emma in the Disney Channel show As The Bell Rings.[1] That same year she made a guest appearance in the Dr. Who spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.
In March 2009, White was cast in Pete Townsend's new version of the rock opera Quadrophenia, which will tour the UK from May through October.[1][4]
In December 2010, White played 'Jess' in the BBC Switch musical Rules of Love, singing in a number of songs.
White has been recording songs for her first solo CD. She also has modelled for GMTV, recorded several voice-overs and language tapes, performed at the Proms in the Park, appeared in a BBC documentary about the Sylvia Young Theatre School, and worked as a guest presenter on CBBC.
