This image is a booking photo, more commonly known as a mug shot, normally produced in the regular operations of a law enforcement agency or correctional facility. Mugshots originating with either the Federal Bureau of Prisons or the Federal Bureau of Investigation should use {{PD-USGov-DOJ}} instead of this tag. Some booking photos (such as those produced by the FBI) are in the public domain, while others are copyrighted.

Where a booking photo is not in the public domain, It is believed that the use of such photographs

to illustrate the booking consistent with non-free content criteria,
where no free alternative exists or could be created,
on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law.
