[edit]Published Translations
[edit]Friendship Bridge (Germany-France)
Progress Table
[edit]WEEK | PROGRESS | TIME | CHALLENGES |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Created account and started translating section of 'Hans Haustein' article with Johanna. | 90 min in class, 60 min at home | Getting used to using the Wikipedia editing tools and learning how to put in links etc. |
2 | We proofread the 'Hans Haustein' translation in class and made necessary adjustments. Started to translate the article 'Karen Köhler' with Johanna. | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | Still getting used to Wikipedia's editing tools, sometimes difficult to know whether I should translate the names of German books and institutions or whether I should leave them in German, as some have commonly used English translations and some do not. |
3 | Finished translating the 'Karen Köhler' article with Johanna, published the article. | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | Learning how to transfer references from the German article and adding categories to the end of the finished article, accidentally published the article a bit prematurely, as we should have created a page using one of our user names and '/KarenKöhler' first. |
4 | Putting last touches to the 'Karen Köhler' article, looking for a new article to translate with Mirjam. Found the article 'Freundschaftsbrücke (Deutschland-Frankreich)' to translate and started translating it | 90 min in class, 120 min at home | Finding certain topic specific words and phrases difficult to translate. Also had to do a bit of research on some of the historical and geographical context mentioned in the 'Freundschaftsbrücke (Deutschland-Frankreich)' article to try and make sure that I was interpreting the meaning of certain parts of the article correctly. |
5 | Continued translating the 'Freundschaftsbrücke (Deutschland-Frankreich)' article with Mirjam | 90 min in class, 60 min at home | Same issues as last week. |
6 | Finished off my part of the 'Freundschaftsbrücke (Deutschland-Frankreich)' article and started proofreading | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | Useful to give the article a read through again with fresh eyes as it is easier to spot certain phrases that maybe do not sound so natural English and are more so a direct translation of German. |
7 | Finished the 'Freundschaftsbrücke (Deutschland-Frankreich)' article, did an extra section of the translation. Published it. | 90 min in class, 60 min at home | Was good to finish the Friendship bridge article. I quite enjoyed it as I found that it seemed to be a well written German article which certainly helps when translating! Lots of new words and historical context learned. |
8 | Started translation the article 'Haus Lichtenstein' with Ilana | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | Pretty challenging article as there are many long sentences and lots of new architecture-related vocabulary |
9 | Continued translating the 'Haus Lichtenstein' article | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | The translation is really quite long so it's taking quite a lot of time to get through. Similar challenges as last week. |
10 | Finished off the 'Haus Lichtenstein' translation, proof read and published it | 90 min in class, 90 min at home | Similar challenges as the two previous weeks. Important to give it all a last proofread as this definitely has helped to make the overall article read as more cohesive and natural in English. |
