Helalyn Flowers is an electronic rock music duo from Rome, Italy.
Formed in 2005 by eclectic Lyricist /Vocalist / Arranger NØemi (full name Noemi Aurora) and Multi-instrumentalist / Producer and Songwriter Max.
The female-fronted band is one of the first Italian acts presenting an original blend of Electronic music, powerful guitars , bewitching and unique vocals and a strong visual approach which made them define by their label as "the hottest signing of the year".[1]
The band collaborated with acts like Angelspit, Andy (Fluon, Bluvertigo), Emilie Autumn and more indicate on the remix and shows sessions.
History
[edit]Max met NØemi at the end of 1999. He already had lot of experience in the music scene as guitarist, vocalist, bass player of various Punk/Hardcore , Metal bands. Even if very joung, he was also owner of a little underground label and creator of a self-distributed alternative fanzine. Even NØemi was always involved into art, creating artwork designs, paintings, digital elaboration of photography and also was part of a contemporary dance company. But as soon as Max listened to her singing "Mama I'm coming Home" of Ozzy Osbourne he suddenely told her "we have to build up a band togehter!"
His will was always that to create a band free to express without limits, ready to make life to a unique sound. And this was the right time. At the beginning their started to search members to set up a four-pieces band. The band was called "The Claw". But at the end of 2004 they decided to leave it all behind 'cause "musicians are boring and fear to dare". So, they definitively gave life to their duo-project, a multiform universe of contrasts made by vintage/ futuristic sounds and vibrations. The ’Helalyn ’s flowers’, in fact, represent the miracle of life emerging from a steril, cold and arid dimension. By this, NØemi and Max embrace “absurd” meant as antithesis of conventional and as a symbol of the "eternal possibility".
Early Days, Disconnection EP
[edit]2005’s Disconnection mini-CD is the first self-released result of the power duo only just after six months from its own birth. Their unique blending of sonorities made by drum machines, heavy guitars and a really catchy vocal approach let impose them as the New Electro Rock paladins.
Firstly, United States are charmed by Helalyn Flowers, who are on heavy rotation on many American indipendent radios with the song “Alienate Me”, entering Top 10s among names like Linkin Park and Faith No More.
As for Europe, historical magazines like Germany’s Sonic Seducer which will feature HELALYN FLOWERS on the March 2006’s sample with their first single “Alienate Me” and Italian hystorical "Flash", on which they will be the first unsigned act to be treated in the same way already established and famous bands usually are, with double-paged interviews, contests, specials etc., shaking a strong interest and clamour in Italy, collecting many Top Releases and Hot Spot columns.
In few days they sold more than 500 copies worldwide.
E-Race Generation and the Signing to Alfa Matrix
[edit]Thirsty for evolution, on June 2006 Helalyn Flowers release the new EP 'E-Race Generation', digitally distributed through the major channels like Amazon and iTunes and supported by new articles on Flash and Metal Hammer UK.
The new songs 'Voices' and 'E-Race Generation' very soon are largely spread through clubs and radios worldwide, revealing true timeless hits and opening new doors mostly in UK.
Their fan-base is really heterogeneous, embracing fans from alternative, electro, industrial, gothic metal, punk wave scenes, hailing from Scandinavian glaciers to Mexicans arid lands…
In the same year, they become one of the most followed acts of the Vampirefreaks industrial community where, thanks also to having won a contest for being featured on the 1st volume of the 4CD Box Fxxk The Mainstream compilation[2], they catch the interest of Belgian indie Alfa Matrix’s artist manager, who sign Helalyn Flowers on February 2007[3].
DAC Charts and the first Album
[edit]Before their signing to the Belgian label, Helalyn Flowers never stopped creating other songs. So audience, media and DJs are suddnely warmed up by the opener EP 'Plaestik'[4],, out on June 2007, that, supported by a solid worldwide distribution (Audioglobe, Sony, Soul Food, Metropolis, Soyuz…), immediately pushes 'Voices' to the tops of [[Deutsche Alternative Charts| DAC Charts]. The EP also featured some remixes from acts like Angelspit and Implant.
The coming out of the debut-album A Voluntary Coincidence [5],on November 2007 ,defined by English press as "one of the most eagerly waited in ages", launches Helalyn Flowers name leading it to the tops of the new alternative scene again, thanks also to the new hymn Im Human, Defective .
The duo focused promotion with a series of concerts between Italian[6], and English stages together with Emilie Autumn (ex Hole violinist), Neon, Ataraxia, Das Ich, Theatres des Vampires and Gothminister.
Suddnely italian Flash Magazine featured NØemi on the cover and international magazines like Rock Sound and Orkus will treat them as the best newcomers.
Cover Songs and Compilations
[edit]In 2008 Helalyn Flowers has been featured on many compilations “Gothic Spirits”, “Endzeit Bunkertracks”, “Cryonica Tanz” and major press’s samples. Also they homage Depeche Mode with their own version of “I Feel You” on the tribute double album edited by Alfa Matrix titled “Re:covered Depeche Mode”[7].
Spacefloor Romance and Stitches of Eden
[edit]'Stitches Of Eden'[8] has been anticipated by the introducing EP “"Spacefloor Romance"”.
By their second album the eclectic duo show to be not a self-repetitive act, completely renewing their own style as well as introducing a considerable 80s Pop Rock influence…The album reveals a much more positive artistic approach, a step towards an awakening of humanity, through themes like purity, healing, love and fantastic surreal sceneries.
Just for this, sound results much more open and inclined to an ever more intense and dreamy vocalism of NØemi that was compared to an original cross of Bjork, Shirley Manson and Amy Lee .
The [[Stitches of Eden| has been released on both regular and deluxe limited edition Box including goodies plus one bonus disc entitled "The Comets Garden". This featured also a remix from Andy (Fluon, Bluvertigo), that supported the duo with his original interpretation of the song 'Love Like Aliens' .
Songs like Hybrid Moments, Your Killer Toy, Sitting On The Moon, Never Enough and Love Like Aliens propose an innovative and explosive unique style which makes of HELALYN FLOWERS a name destined to enter the astonishing panorama of immortal stars of the Third Millennium’s alternative music.
