About Me

[edit]

I enjoy to workout at the gym. My workouts consist of a mix of strength training (Weightlifting), cardio, and body weight exercises (mostly abdominal exercises). Lifting heavy weights has ¨been shown to strengthen connective tissues and bone¨ ([1]). When I am not at the gym, you can find me with my best friends and family. Me and my friends like to get food, watch the sunset, and sometimes go shopping together. I also love animals! I have two cats and I love them dearly. I used to participate in community theater and I was in my school´s jazz and chamber choir, but now I have prioritized other things like my job and the gym so I quit, but I still love singing independently in my free time.

My Wikipedia Interests

[edit]

I have only used Wikipedia a handful of times for miscellaneous school assignments and personal curiosities, but I am very excited to use it more this quarter. If I end up pursuing some more editing here on Wikipedia, I would love to add credible information to topics that may not have a lot of people researching and adding to them. This may include very specific historical events that haven´t been focused a lot on here on Wikipedia, or any miscellaneous thing that needs a little more attention. If I ever come across any typos or grammatical errors here on Wikipedia I plan to help fix those as well, to help others learn and read easier.

Reviewing the ¨Somerset¨ Article on Wikipedia (Essay)

[edit]

I visited the Somerset Wikipedia page and found three things that were worth reviewing; the lack of reliable sources in the article, the lack of citations in the article, and irrelevant sections in the article.

The article about the city in England; Somerset, not only lacks correct citations, but even the citations that are included, lack reliable and trusted sources. With sources that lead to .com websites (compared to .org) with possibly false information and even sources that lead to websites that aren't working anymore, this article needs more reliable sources so that the information published on Wikipedia is more backed up and accurate, (even though often times .com can have reliable information, it is hard to guarantee).

On Wikipedia every single fact is supposed to be correctly cited with a reliable source. Like I mentioned before, having a reliable source is important, but having the citation in the first place is even more important. There is under one hundred citations in this article and well over one hundred facts in this article. There is full paragraphs in this article that have several facts with NO citations. This needs to be fixed so consumers of this media understand that the facts published on Wikipedia, specifically in the Somerset article, are backed up by information that has been previously researched

While this article includes lots of relevant information, there are still irrelevant sentences and facts included in the article that it could go without. Like in the education section of the article it discusses how some schools in Somerset have a specialty school status. This fact is irrelevant and unimportant and makes the article more wordy and harder to understand.

Overall, I would say this Wikipedia page is not terrible in the sense that it is still interesting, but it lacks some key components. With an overall lack of reliable sources, which can lead to misinformation, tons of citations that are missing from facts in the page, and pieces of irrelevant information on the page, I would not recommend using this article for important research.
