Gene Grabowski
[edit]Gene Grabowski is a former journalist and current communications counselor to global companies, athletes and entertainers. His career in journalism and communications has spanned several national publications, trade associations, and public relations agencies. He is currently a partner at the communications form kglobal.
Grabowski is frequently interviewed in the media about crisis communications and management. In 2007 he was named PR News Crisis Manager of the Year for his work on various campaigns, including the litigation struggle of the Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the nationwide recall of Blue Bell ice cream, and the North American recalls of pet food. [1] [2]
Life and Career
[edit]Grabowski was born in 1954 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Leonard Grabowski and Mary Ellen Thompson. He studied Writing and History as an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh.
Grabowski began his career in communications as a reporter, working primarily in Washington, D.C. He covered congressional issues at the Associated Press, served as White House reporter for the Washington Times, and as Manager of Press Information at C-SPAN. [3]
It was later reported in the media that Grabowski left the Washington Times in protest after a dispute with the editor about their handling of a story suggesting that Democratic presidential nominee Michael S. Dukakis had sought psychiatric counseling. [4]
As a journalist Grabowski also covered the U.S.-Soviet arms treaty summits, the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Robert Bork, national election campaigns, and the federal budget. [5]
Grabowski would later go on to join the Grocery Manufacturers of America, the world's largest food trade group. As Vice President of Communications and Marketing, he was the association’s head communications strategist and spokesperson.
For the last decade Grabowski has worked in crisis communications and issues management, first at LEVICK as Executive Vice President and later joining kglobal as a partner. In this capacity he has directed numerous public relations efforts for companies of all sizes.
Grabowski frequently appears on television news programs, speaking on crisis management, and in particular as it relates to food safety and institutions of higher education. [6] [7] [8]
Separate from work, Grabowski serves on the board of International Social Service USA, an organization dedicated to helping children and families whose lives have been disrupted by migration and international crises. He also holds a ranking from the U.S. Chess Federation. [9]
