Article Evaluation I think that the article Diabetic neuropathy is a really good article. I like how it includes that some people have the tingling feeling in their legs but others don't feel anything at all. The prevention section was correct that diabetics need a tight glucose control. However, for those with neuropathies it is important for them to check their feet daily, to prevent further complications. I think that the article could have included more information about Type 1 diabetes as well, as neuropathies affect both types.

Some of the things that I have learned about Wikipedia during the article evaluation, is that there is a lot of coding involved with this site. One of the major problems that I have faced with this assignment was that there was a lot of technical skills that I have never done before that we were expected to know and use on Wikipedia. What I did learn was that Wikipedia is a very neutral website and tries not to have a biased opinion. Many of the guidelines that we are expected to know and use when writing an article that I wouldn't expect from a Wikipedia site. Another interesting feature of this experience was that anyone can add whatever information that they think is critical to add to the wikipedia page. A topic for me that I find really interesting that affects so many people is Diabetes. One of the most common complication that diabetic patients have to monitor for is neuropathy. As this can lead to further complications, like foot amputations, if not controlled. Once I found the article, I compared it to what the Wikipedia page on the topic wrote about and added information where I thought was appropriate to add and what should be clarified. My thought process in deciding what to add to the article was taken from what I have previously known and then what was built upon when reading further information on the topic from my research article. From there I would add information that I felt was left out and I tried to add information that left me confused.

Some of the contributions that I have added to this article is fixed some grammatical errors in the article. I also added what I thought was further relevant information about the topic. Stating facts like this can happen in Type 1 diabetes it is not occluded to just Type 2. I also added that people experience it differently, some experience burning sharp pains while others don't feel anything at all. The ones that don't feel have sensations in their feet are more prone to wounds, in many cases these go unnoticed and can lead to infections or further complications. I feel that my article is very similar to earlier versions, I just added more information to the topic so that it can be more understood. During our peer review we got to choose what article that we found was interesting from one of our fellow classmates. We had to read and review all of the edits that they made from their article add more or tell them what they are doing well and what they could add. I thought that the article that I reviewed was really good and other than just some cosmetic changes that I thought should be added, I didn't think that there should be any big changes added. My peers added again just some little tips to help improve my article by just adding some more details. As this article is not fully close to being done and will need more work done to it in the future. I did not receive any feedback from any of the Wikipedia editor's or any of the Wikipedia guides relating to any of the work that I did for this article. If I did I would have responded just like I would with our peer edits and take that information to help improve the article in itself. What I learned from this experience is just how hard it is to gather all of the information, come up with valid relevant information, and then format it to the standard and write it to whomever your audience is. I think that this whole experience was different and has expanded our knowledge in a way that we normally wouldn't in this program. However I think that by doing this we have found a way to take a nursing topic and research and change the format so that that anyone reading the article could understand. This has prepared us in a way to get us out of our comfort zone and figure out what it is like to go through the research process. I think that Wikipedia can improve its understanding on the nursing profession is following what the evidence based works shows. One of the problems with health care in general is that it is always changing and guidelines and protocols are constantly changing what is best. So improving and understanding is something that is hard to do, having programs like this where students write about a topic is helpful in that we can help update and improve topics in our field to help others understand better. This is important, because there is always something new to be learned or taught in anything and so it is important to become aware of in my case neuropathies of what you can do to stop the progression and cautions that you can take. So having articles for medical topics can help expand everyone's knowledge in the topic.
